Call for papers: Thinking Anti-Gender Movements in Africa. Creative-Critical – Makers & Producers


Call for submissions: Jozi Film Festival 2021. Deadline: 23 July, with a late submission date of 13 August.

2021’s festival will open on Friday, 17th September and like 2020, be a hybrid of both a virtual festival and well as physical screenings.

“We looking forward to seeing how filmmakers have responded to the global pandemic and how that is reflected in the films that are submitted to us,” says Lisa.

All entries must be submitted via FilmFreeway


Books, magazines, creative literary journals:

Call for submissions: African Writers Trust’s Manuscript Assessment Programme. Deadline: 31 July.


Mwanaka Media and Publishing is calling for your creative submissions for the Zimbolicious Anthology, Volume  6: An Anthology of Zimbabwean Literature and Arts. Open to experienced and young poets, storytellers, novelist, essayists (academic and general), playwrights, visual artists, and songwriters. The anthology will be distributed by African Books Collective. Deadline for entries is 31 July. 


The Other Side of Hope, a new literary magazine celebrating refugee and immigrant communities worldwide, is open for submissions. Deadline 31 July. A Long House is calling for your submissions to its first issue, Origins. Deadline 05 August.


The Shallow Tales Review literary magazine is collecting entries for its 34th issue. The submission window closes on 20 July.


In partnership with Literandra, the AfroAnthology Series is inviting African writers to participate in, and contribute to, their third collection of creative nonfiction. Deadline: 30 August. 


And also on our radar…. Tumaini Festival!

Call for international artists to participate in Tumaini Festival, the annual music and arts celebration at Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Malawi (taking place this year on 04-07 November). Deadline for applications: 31 July
