We are delighted to share this call for submissions for the Ake Arts and Books Festival’s annual journal.
Writers are invited to submit their works for publication in the 2019 edition of the Ake Review. The theme for this year’s festival and 7th Ake edition is: Black Bodies, Grey Matter.
Ideas abound on the shape and form of the African body, but these are rarely formulated by those to whom the bodies belong. Ake is interested in submissions that explore the link between the mental and the physical, and explore specific phenomena such as body image, scarification, tatooes, gender nonconformity, colourism, and issues around mental health in an African context.
The editors are interested in your submissions of poetry (a maximum of 3 poems); prose (maximum 1600 words); artwork (maximum 2 high-resolution JPEGs; biography (no longer than 70 words).
Guidelines for submission:
-All entries should be sent as an email attachment to: editor@akefestival.org
-Include a subject title: “AR Submissions”
-Include a brief bio.
-Writers can submit from anywhere in the world. There are no geographical restrictions.
-All entries must be original and unpublished
-Deadline is Monday, 8th July 2019.
If your work is selected for publication in the Ake Review journal, you will be given two contributors copies.
