Call for Applications: Lake of Stars Festival 2019, Malawi (Deadline: 30 June)

After 15 years, Lake of Stars Festival returns this year in an exciting new format: Lake of Stars Discovery. The three-day celebration will take place in Kachere Kastle, 27-29 September.

Located in the Nkhata Bay district, northern Malawi, Kachere Kastle is a stunning lodge built in the style of a Moroccan castle, set on rolling white sands by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi.

Offering a unique, immersive adventure for festival goers, Lake of Stars Discovery will bring you a curated line up of music, talks, poetry, theatre, film, art and wellness activities from Malawi and across the globe, in an intimate and inspiring setting. Artists

Applications to perform at Lake of Stars Discovery are open until 30 June 2019. Musician, poet, visual artist, dancer, theatre group or something else entirely, LOS wants to hear from you. Artists have the opportunity to perform on state-of-the-art equipment in front of international media at the festival. Applications from inside and outside of Malawi are encouraged. Please be aware that the majority of artists from outside of Malawi perform for free. If you are coming from outside of the country you will also need to cover the costs of getting yourselves to Malawi and must state clearly in your application how you will do this. There are a number of organisations that help with artist travel such as arts councils, Art Moves Africa, SAMRO, and Hivos International. The organizers are able to offer free camping and catering on the day of performance.

Performance slots are limited so make sure your application is as complete and convincing as possible. As part of your application you are required to provide valid links to your work/performance. APPLY NOW.

Vendors

Vendors are an integral part of the festival experience. If you have an idea for an exciting stall, whether that’s supplying high quality food and drink, exceptional crafts, unique fashion or something else, apply now for a chance to engage with our onsite community of open-minded festival goers. Applications are welcome from both commercial and NGO entities.

There are only a small number of pitches available so priority will be given to interesting or limited edition products and services. Applications for vendors close on 7 July 2019. APPLY NOW

About the Project

Lake of Stars promotes Malawian arts and tourism through international interaction and exposure. LOS organizes festivals on the shores of Lake Malawi and runs events in Europe and across Africa.
