Call for Applications / Appel à candidature: Arts Management and Literary Entrepreneurship Workshop at the 4^th Annual Writivism Festival

Have you set up or are you thinking of setting up a new platform that publishes or brings new audiences to African literature? Would you like to exchange ideas about how to successfully position and manage a for-profit or non-profit literary initiative? This four-day workshop is designed to give aspiring and early career arts managers and entrepreneurs in the African literary and cultural scene the opportunity to build market knowledge, develop project management skills, share best practice, and network with colleagues from across the continent.

A collaboration between the University of Bristol, Stellenbosch University and the Centre for African Cultural Excellence, the workshop will combine academic and practical approaches. Each day will focus on ways of setting up, thinking about and sustaining the following different kinds of literary initiative:

• Organizing a literary festival (Monday 22 August)
• Running a book distribution business (Tuesday 23 August)
• Publishing translations (Wednesday 24 August)
• Managing a literary prize (Thursday 25 August)

Relevant critical reading will be circulated in advance and discussed in each session. Across the four days there will be presentations from successful practitioners, opportunities for Q&A sessions with experts, as well as time to discuss and develop your own ideas and plans.

Successful applicants will receive confirmation by Friday 5 August 2016 and are expected to be present for the full duration of the workshop as the conversations and skills developed will be interlinked. There is no fee for attending but successful applicants will be responsible for funding their own travel, meals and accommodation.

Appel à candidature: Atelier sur l’entreprenariat littéraire et la gestion artistique
au 4e Festival “Writivism”

Avez-vous créé, ou pensez-vous créer, une plateforme éditoriale, ou une initiative qui vise à faire découvrir la littérature africaine à un nouveau public? Aimeriez-vous échanger des idées sur comment fonder et gérer une telle initiative, à but lucratif ou non-lucratif? Cet atelier de quatre jours donne aux participants (qu’ils soient en début de carrière dans le secteur éditorial/culturel, ou qu’ils cherchent à fonder une telle initiative) l’occasion d’approfondir leur connaissance du marché, de développer des compétences en gestion de projet, d’échanger des conseils, et de construire un réseau avec des collègues venant des quatre coins du continent africain.

L’atelier est un partenariat entre l’université de Bristol (Royaume-Uni), l’université de Stellenbosch (Afrique du sud) et le Centre for African Cultural Excellence (Ouganda) et alliera des approches académiques et pratiques. Chaque jour, on mettra l’accent sur comment fonder, penser et pérenniser les initiatives suivantes:

• L’organisation d’un festival littéraire (lundi 22 août)
• La gestion d’une entreprise de distribution des livres (mardi 23 août)
• L’édition des traductions (mercredi 24 août)
• La gestion d’un prix littéraire (jeudi 25 août)

Il y aura des textes distribués à l’avance, et qui seront discutés dans chaque session. Durant les quatre jours il y aura des présentations de professionels dans le domaine du livre, l’occasion d’échanger avec ces experts, et le temps de discuter, et de développer vos propres idées et vos projets.
